AS / A2 Level BIOLOGY

Students require a minimum of 5 A* - C grades at GCSE, including a C grade or above in English and Mathematics

 

All students will be given the opportunity to carry out a wide range of investigative work including guidance in using advanced level laboratory techniques (e.g. culturing bacteria using aseptic techniques). This is will be assessed separately, through practical examination.

 

AS level Units:

Unit 1— Biology & disease

Unit 2 —The variety of living organisms

Unit 3 – Investigative & Practical Skills

 

Unit 1: 1 hour 15 minute examination 

Unit 2: 1 hour 45 minute examination

Unit 3: Internal assessment

 

 The AS/A2 course has been developed to develop enquiring minds. AS/A2 Biology is very popular and large part of this stems from its relevance to everyday life. This course is not for the squeamish but it will definitely open your eyes to what is both around and within us!!

Many science based careers require A Level Biology, including Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary science, and Physiotherapy.
